Could my heart problems possibly be caused by sleep apnea?

Resting heart rate around 45…skips beats when I’m tired.

The best answer is SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

In regards to sleep apnea: If untreated, sleep apnea will cause heart problem. Your body doesn’t “know” you have sleep apnea. All the body knows is that it isn’t getting enough oxygen to it’s various parts. The body does the only thing it knows to do inorder to increase the oxygen supply – it has the heart pump more blood. In other words it increases your heart rate. Over time, this will lead to an enlarged heart and other problems.

I have sleep apnea and this is what my doctor explained to me. It is a very simplified explanation of the situation.

However the only way to get an answer to your question is to “see your doctor”. They’ll run tests. Let the doctor rule out other possibilities.

usually heart problems, circulatory problems, and bad nutrition cause sleep apnea not the other way around. Sleep Apnea is a symptom that something else is wrong. Try changing your diet and trying yoga because most of the exercises focus on breath control.

Yes, yes, yes. Sleep apnea, when suboptimally treated, can cause significant slowing of the heart rate (bradycardia) and/or abnormal conduction of the electrical impulses in the heart (heart block), as well as a host of other problems. You need to talk with your own physician about this condition urgently, as this is very serious. And if you aren’t using your CPAP, you need to do so. If you are, you need to make sure, with the help of your doctor, that it is adequate for your needs.
