try not to go to bed fretting about anything that would keep your mind active
I have suffered from insomnia for so many years, and have tried so many things. I will tell you what sometimes works for me, because when you have insomnia nothing works all the time. Sometimes I try eating a bowl of cereal just as I climb into bed. Something with the milk is suppose to help sleeping. I hate milk, but I’ll use it with cereal like something making it sweet. Ya know, there’s an ole wives tale that says a warm glass of milk before bed will help someone sleep, but I say “yuck”! I used to try stuff like Tylenol PM, but too much Tylenol is not good for your liver. Then I tried the stuff called “Nighttime Sleep Aid”, some over the counter stuff. It has 25 mg of Diphenhdramine HCl. I didn’t think it worked very well. It gets to the point where I can go for days and days without sleep, and I don’t care what anyone says, that your body can only go so long without sleep. Maybe it can’t, but in my case my body does what it wants to do. Since I’ve been under a doctor’s care for quite a while, they have tried me on so many meds. Now she has me on Trazadone, which is an antidepressant but also causes drowsiness. I’ve been on this for about 14 yrs, and the side effects are really strange vivid in color dreams, and when waking up in the a.m., still have a little drowsiness. It can also cause me to not be able to lose weight, which my doc gripes about all the time. There is also another drug in the antidepressant family called Elavil, which also causes sleepiness at bedtime. I don’t suggest you take any of these without first talking to your family doctor. Make sure the doctor you go to has an excellent bedside manner, is sympathetic to your problem, and really willing to help you. That is the most important thing I can say. My doctor has none of those qualities, but because of my insurance, I’m having a really tough time finding a doctor that fits my needs. Good Luck!
Perhaps you can find some useful information in web searches for insomnia + “natural remedies” and “sleep apnea” + “natural remedies”.
I used to have a lot of trouble falling asleep but I don’t anymore. The main thing I do is have a bedtime routine. About an hour before I want to go to sleep I get ready for bed and do relaxing things (like reading) and get away from the computer and tv. My body knows the signals for falling asleep now and so it can do it.
