How did I get sleep apnea? Can it be cured? What did I do to get this suddenly?

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 3 years ago out of the clear blue sky. I was 38 years old and never had any major health problems. From what I read it is hereditary but no one in my family has this. I hear it could lead to stroke, heart attack, etc. How in the world could such a disease just come out of the clear blue sky!!!! I am totally confused and need to know how to CURE this disease!!!!!!!!!

  1. Mikey says:

Depends on how it developed…much sleep apnea is caused by being overweight (not assuming anything about you, just making a statement), losing weight in that case, could “cure” (for lack of better words) the apnea. If the reasoning behind your apnea is something that is controllable, then it is much easier to correct once the “issue” is corrected. Cure (if any) is based on cause.
