Um its not that loud, but its a constant humming noise. not a real turn on is it!!! but health is #1 and it will improve his life.
I dont know much about the problem but my boyfriends dad had it, and he would fall asleep all day because he stopped breathing so much in his sleep he was not getting any sleep at all. For 8 hours sleep he was probably only getting 30 minutes but he did not have a machine to aid him.
Use this site for help, had a read through this website seems quite good, i remember my boyfriends dad reading it to find out about the condition

I know a few women who cope with this really well.
Unfortunately I couldn’t. The noise kept me awake even more than his damned snoring had for umpteen years before that.
I had no choice but to move out of the room. He now has the larger master bedroom and I sleep in a tiny spare room that used to be a patio.. sheesh. The machine makes a hissing noise and drives me nuts.
You might cope with it ok. But if you don’t, don’t hesitate to move into another room (or kick him out and make him go sleep in another room) otherwise your health will suffer like my did from the stress and lack of sleep.
While the noise may bother you in the beginning; keep in mind that the person next to you is the love of your life, and you will do anything to keep him with you as long as possible! Now give him a big hug for me and thank God for each day. Good luck to you both!
