Does sleep apnea ever go away completely?

Husband was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2006. He lost 80 pounds,hd his oxygen checked weekly and stopped using cpap because he felt he was cured. He has gained some weight back and complains about not sleeping well.

Do you know of anyone with a sleep apnea problem that has been completely cured of it?

I know to consult a professional medical expert, I just want feedback from someone who has sleep apnea or know of someone who has it.
